It was a wonderful year, I had a great time – thanks Rob! For the rest of you…well, either you’ll read this link at the new site, or you’ll be here, which in a few hours will be a redirect. So, it’s sort of pointless to post a link, isn’t it?

A while back Culture of Soccer, DCenters, and Sideline Views – probably others – talked about gay athletes and homophobia. I wrote this post, didn’t really think I hit what I wanted to say, kept it around as a draft, and, well, we’re in the holiday doldrums (at least in this country), so here it [...]
Courtesy, more or less, of the uniwatchblog, interesting browsing at Billsportsmaps.com – including a wealth of soccer maps. Why, there’s even an NASL one. Something to read instead of how much my team stinks and how awful my picks were.

Offside Rules gives us the sad news that the North End of Columbus Crew Stadium is being torn out and replaced with a concert stage. The North End was a mixture of Charenton Asylum and the People’s Front of Judea, where Columbus Crew fans waged ongoing battle against their arch-enemies, other Columbus Crew fans. We [...]
Well, Eric has the link that will cure you. Bottom line it for you: CONCACAF is a sewer, and Jack Warner is the baby alligator that was flushed down the toilet ten years ago.

David Keyes at Culture of Soccer has previously looked at the contrast between the insanely ideological Serie A and the nonpartisan Premiership, and mostly I thought about how happy I was that I know so little about the politics of MLS players. Then Climbing The Ladder decided to poke around the Open Secrets website, to [...]

So Steve Nicol was fined $1,000 for criticizing the referees. Everyone’s knee-jerk reaction, including mine: “They gave him a fine? They should have given him a medal.” On reflection, I’m glad I didn’t rush to the blog with that joke. For one thing, it was an old Benny Hill joke. For two things, at some [...]

Now that this story is over, I can comment on it without ticking off friends and acquaintances. (And, for all I know, sworn enemies.) So Andrea Canales was apparently bored, and decided to go around asking former Earthquakes if they’d consider returning to San Jose. This is why she’s a real journalist and I’m not, [...]

Finally got around to linking the US soccer blogs that everyone was raving about. They’re over there on the right somewhere. I even added the referees blog – I mean, it’s amazing they have one, considering they can barely see the keyboard HAW HAW HAW BIG LAFFS If you know of anyone, or if in [...]

Roger Allaway replaces Colin Jose as Soccer Hall of Fame historian. Jose was the guy who effectively rediscovered the American Soccer League of the 1920′s – the game’s equivalent of the Lost Continent of Atlantis. I’m paraphrasing the story here, but Jose was looking through Open Cup winners, saw a bunch of teams from the [...]

The thing was, by the time I realized that I’d be without net access, I was without net access. I can understand why getting DSL back up at home was such an issue, seeing as how I moved thousands of miles away to a remote desert island blocks away in the largest city in the [...]

Thought of this last night, forgot to put in the other post. Ever see “Glengarry Glen Ross”? Al Pacino is giving Jonathan Pryce the runaround about refunding his real estate check, when Kevin Spacey barges in and totally blows it for him. Pryce scampers the hell out, and Pacino gives Spacey a death stare before [...]

So I’m cruising soccerpubs.com and bigsoccer.com and such trying to find pictures of Chicago wearing their different uniforms over the weekend, and trying to see if Kansas City did anything different for Turn Back The Clock Night. It apparently wasn’t Sting v. Comets, but the only difference I’ve seen so far were the Fire wearing [...]

I love Culture of Soccer, even if I’m always weeks late on links to articles I like. Here’s a great one about new Fireman Paulo Wanchope’s background.
It’s all gone downhill since 1870. And it’s all the keeper’s fault. As usual. How can we solve a problem that’s crippled the game for over 130 years? And — as a way of reducing his role as an instigator of ugly play — he could be barred from kicking the ball over the halfway [...]

Gunner, one of the rogues behind the LA Riot Squad, and the man responsible for the vast, vast majority of their look (T-shirts, scarves, website, Lars the Gas Mask Guy, etc.), made me a header! Now I look like a REAL blog instead of WordPress Default! (Also thanks to Daniel at Top Drawer Soccer for [...]

Ha! Told you Tony Sanneh would end up back with the Thunder! Just took him a few years, that’s all. FNUSL is starting soon – those wild and crazy California Vics are taking on US Open Cup contenders Carolina Dyna- er, Railhawks. So, since Climbing The Ladder is busy trying to explain the international rules [...]

Bill Simmons, usually a little smarter than this: Every five years, people predict soccer could “take off” in America. Every five years, it doesn’t happen. Why? Because Americans don’t want to watch anything less than the best possible athletes. Can’t argue with that. (And don’t get me started on this. Bleah.)
